Ria Formosa is a lagoon system occupying an area of 18 400ha on the lee of the Algarve. It covers 60 km of coast from Ancao till Manta Rota and is composed of a narrow adjacent coast and littoral dune area almost parallel to the continental ecotone, including small peninsulas and barrier islands which protect a large area of marsh lands, canals and small islands.

Due to the existing avifauna, its natural characteristics and the geographical position, it has been selected as an area of great importance both nationally and internationally.
The Animaris offers excursions the whole year which include the following: Island Circuit, Nature Circuit (Birdwatching).
